Description   U.S. GI HBT Fatigue Jacket. WWII U.S. GI Herringbone Twill Fatigue Uniform. In May 1941, the War Department announced the introduction of the new green herringbone twill (HBT) uniform. It was meant to be worn over the OD Wool uniform in cool weather, but could also be worn as the summer tropical combat dress. Impregnated with an anti-vesicant compound, it was issued for use in the D-Day Normandy landings to the 4th ID and by all regular units afterwards.   According to "Doughboy to GI", this is the Jacket, HBT, OD7, Special (second pattern).  It was a more simplified design than the first pattern and dropped the added on waist belt, buckle adjusters and buttoned cuffs.  The pockets were made without the center pleats and were squared.  Other features included a gas flap inside the front opening and two metal buttons on the back of the rear collar for attaching the gas hood used in conjunction with the gas mask.  These are faithfully reproduced in our HBT Shirt.   It is made like the original from 100% cotton twill in the correct OD-7 green color, but without the anti-vesicant.
