After several years of experimentation, the US Army produced the M43 field uniform consisting of the M43 field jacket, trousers and patrol cap.  These were originally sent for field testing in Italy in the spring of 1944 but weren't issued to complete units until they were issued to the 82nd and 101st before Operation Market Garden.  Other units would have a mixture of field jackets until early 1945.  The Paratroopers, having discovered that the wind and water resistant M42 jump uniform was really neither wind nor water resistant, modified the standard M43 field trouser by adding side pockets and leg ties.
     Our reproduction is patterned after the early production trousers with white twill lining and plastic buttons as used on the jackets. As in the originals, the waist sizes are slightly larger than marked since they were designed to be worn over the wool trousers.
